This class is intended for beginning woodworkers who are new to using a table saw. The goal is to increase your confidence in safely operating the table saw for basic cuts.

In this 1-hour session, we will cover:

  • General safety considerations when using the table saw
  • Basic types of cuts the table saw is best used for (and what it's not suited for)
  • Overview of common saw blade types and what each is best suited for
  • Tips and tricks for better, cleaner cuts
  • Basic jigs and accessories that make your work easier and safer

In addition to the presentation, the class includes open discussion time for the group to talk through particular use cases and scenarios.

If you'd like to try out what you've learned on the saw after class, please bring your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Safety Requirements for Hands-On Practice:

  • Closed-toed shoes (no sandals or open-toe footwear)
  • Long hair must be tied back
  • No loose clothing, jewelry, or dangling sleeves near the blade
  • Safety glasses (available at the space if you don't have your own)
  • Hearing protection recommended

Please note: While most table saw basics apply across brands, our discussion will center around the new Grizzly brand table saw at the Makerspace.

Class size is limited to 8 students. Registration is open to current Waukesha Makerspace members first. Any remaining spots will open to non-members on March 23, 2026.
