Curious what a makerspace actually looks like in real life? Come see it.

This open house is designed for new and prospective members who want to explore the Waukesha Makerspace, take a guided tour, and ask questions in a relaxed, no-pressure setting. You’ll walk through the shop, see the tools and work areas, meet current members, and get a clear picture of how membership works.

This event is not a member meeting or business update. It’s purely for people who want to:

    • See the space in person

    • Learn what tools and resources are available

    • Ask questions about memberships, training, and projects

    • Get a feel for the community before deciding if it’s a fit

No experience required. No commitment expected. Just show up curious.

    This one's just for us.

No tours, no pitches, no "so what is a makerspace?" conversations. Just the people who make this place what it is — hanging out, catching up, and having a good time together.

    Here's what's happening:

The Update — We'll kick things off with a quick rundown of what's new: recent upgrades, upcoming workshops, and where the space is headed next. Short, sweet, and worth hearing.

The Food — We're bringing snacks and drinks. You're bringing your appetite. Simple math.

The Hang — This is the main event. Fire up a project you've been meaning to get to, jump into a tabletop game, swap ideas with someone from a totally different shop area, or just grab a seat and talk shop. The space is yours.

    Why are we doing this?

We used to pack everything — new member tours, space updates, community time — into one event. It was a lot. So we split it up. Open Houses are now focused on welcoming newcomers. And M.O.M. (Members Only Mixer) is your time. No distractions, no agenda beyond connecting with the people who keep this place running.

We're planning to do these quarterly, so this is the first of many. Help us set the tone by showing up, even if it's just to swing by, grab a snack, and say hi.

One ask: Please register so we can plan for food. That's it. No tickets, no fees — just a headcount.

    See you March 7th.

New to 3D modeling? This hands-on class covers the core skills you need to start designing your own parts in Fusion 360 — the free, professional-grade CAD software used by makers, engineers, and hobbyists worldwide.

In 90 minutes, you'll go from a blank canvas to a finished 3D model you can take home and print. We'll cover:

    • Sketching — Drawing 2D shapes with dimensions and constraints
    • Extruding — Turning flat sketches into solid 3D objects
    • Cutting — Adding holes, pockets, and slots to your designs
    • Filleting — Rounding edges for a polished, professional look

By the end of class, you'll build a custom phone stand using every technique covered — and you'll have the skills to start designing your own projects.

    Prerequisites:

    • You must be comfortable using a laptop on your own (file management, installing software, navigating applications)
    • Fusion 360 must be installed, opened, and your free Autodesk account created BEFORE class. Setup instructions are included below — please complete them when you register, not the night before. We will not have time for installation or account troubleshooting during class. If you arrive without Fusion 360 ready to go, you will not be able to participate.

    What to bring:

    • Your laptop with Fusion 360 installed and ready
    • A mouse (strongly recommended — trackpads work but make 3D navigation much harder)

No CAD experience required. This class assumes zero 3D modeling knowledge. But you should be comfortable using your laptop — this is not an introduction to computers.

Class size is limited to 6 participants to ensure everyone gets individual attention. Registration is required — you must register through this event page and receive a confirmation email to attend. If you did not receive a confirmation email, you are not registered and will not be able to participate. Walk-ins cannot be accommodated due to the small class size.

    Setup Instructions:

    1. Go to https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal
    2. Create a free Autodesk account and select the "Personal Use" license
    3. Download and install Fusion 360
    4. Open Fusion 360, sign in, and confirm it loads to a blank design
    5. You're ready for class!

Get ready for an afternoon of fun, friendly competition, and community! All members are welcome—and so are your guests. Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or just learning your first game, there’s something for everyone.

The shop has dozens of board games to choose from, and you’re welcome to bring your personal favorites as well. We’ll be teaching games throughout the event (many are quick and easy to pick up—Dominion is a personal favorite!).

Feel free to bring food for yourself or something to share, but no pressure—just bring yourself and an interest in having fun. We’ll have tables set up for smaller groups (most games accommodate 4–5 players), and if there’s interest near the end, we may fire up some Jackbox party games for a lighthearted group experience.

Let us know you’re coming, and we’ll save you a seat at the table.

Join us for a monthly series of hands-on hack nights where we build, tinker, and reimagine robotics kits from CrunchLabs (by Mark Rober). Each session, we’ll assemble one, or more, of the Hack Packs together as a group, and then hack the kit into something wild, wonderful, or downright weird.

These kits are designed to be modified—so after we build, we brainstorm, collaborate, and customize them however we like. If a session fills up, we’ll split into groups and each tackle a kit. It’s collaborative, fun, and filled with experimentation.

No experience necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to make cool stuff.

Step away from the tools, screens, printers, lasers, and half-finished projects and join us for a laid-back Waukesha Makerspace Summer Picnic ☀️

We’ll be gathering at Hales Corners Park, Picnic Area #2 for a full, no-pressure day of good company and fresh air. This is a bring-your-own food and drinks picnic. You’re welcome to bring something to share if you feel like it, but there’s absolutely no obligation. Bringing food and drinks just for yourself is 100% acceptable and never judged.

Alcohol isn’t frowned upon, but this is very much a be responsible, be respectful kind of afternoon. The goal is relaxed, not rowdy.

Expect casual games like bocce ball, frisbee, and other “we’re here to relax, not compete” classics. Feel free to bring any games you enjoy. The real objective is conversation, laughter, and enjoying time with fellow makers without an agenda or a stopwatch.

Bring your own chairs, blankets, or other comfy setup. Picnic tables are typically available, but personal comfort is king.

This picnic is a long-running tradition. Tom and Casey have been hosting this get-together for nearly 20 years, and it’s truly rain or shine. We usually bring EZ-Up awnings just in case, and believe it or not, the rainy years have still been a blast.

Family and partners are welcome. Come for the whole day or just swing by when you can. Build nothing. Fix nothing. Just exist pleasantly with good people.
