The Fiber Arts Social is back! Grab your current project (or start a new one) and join us at the makerspace for an evening of crafting and good conversation.

Whether you knit, crochet, weave, embroider, cross-stitch, or do something we haven't even thought of yet — bring it along! All skill levels are welcome, from "I just bought my first skein of yarn" to "I've been doing this longer than I care to admit."

This is not a class — just a relaxed hangout where we work on our own projects side by side. That said, if you're stuck on something or want to pick someone's brain, that's what we're here for. Our first meetup in March was exactly that kind of vibe: projects out, conversations flowing, and a genuinely good time.

We'll set up in either the leatherworking space or the conference room depending on what's available. Bring your supplies, something to drink if you'd like, and we'll see you there!

Join us for a monthly series of hands-on hack nights where we build, tinker, and reimagine robotics kits from CrunchLabs (by Mark Rober). Each session, we’ll assemble one, or more, of the Hack Packs together as a group, and then hack the kit into something wild, wonderful, or downright weird.

These kits are designed to be modified—so after we build, we brainstorm, collaborate, and customize them however we like. If a session fills up, we’ll split into groups and each tackle a kit. It’s collaborative, fun, and filled with experimentation.

No experience necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to make cool stuff.

    Drop Spinning Beginner Class

    What is Drop Spinning?

    What are Fiber Arts?

Have you ever made anything with yarn?

Have you ever wondered about how yarn is made?

Want to give it a try?

Whether you have never picked up a spindle before or are currently able to lap spin or park and draft, I can make you more comfortable and confident in your future spinning adventures.  We will go over some basic spinning information and terminology; I promise, no pop quizzes.  But I love sharing my love of spinning and nerdy side with some fun science stuff.

Bring your spindle or borrow one of mine.  I will also have spindles available for purchase.

Approximately 2 oz of fiber will be provided per student.  If you have a drop spindle, feel free to bring it. However, you are still welcome to try one of mine.

There are no prerequisites for this class.

The instructor is Renee Love of Wavellite Creative.  (bio below)

Maximum class size is 6 (due to size of location).

Note: Full Class cost is $40, there are Discounts offered for Paid members of the Waukesha Makerspace.

Please use the link below to register through my business website.

Please, be sure to register, as space is limited.

Additional dates and times will be added as needed.

    BIO:

Renee has lived in and around Milwaukee, WI, all her life. She was introduced to fiber arts at a young age by an aunt with a Llama farm, and later learned to knit and crochet, still while quite young. This is not the original direction she thought life would take, having earned several college degrees, including a Master of Architecture from UW-Milwaukee. She now fully embraces this fiber arts adventure. Once Renee learned to spin yarn, it became her passion. Spinning yarn more than anything else, has led her to selling her hand-spun and making it her career. Officially founding her business, Wavellite Creative LLC, in early 2021. She has been spinning for years and has been designing drop spindles for almost as long. She also designs and builds spinning wheels by hand. Teaching started with the selling of things to spin yarn with. Discovering a talent and a joy of sharing her love of spinning. Renee has been steadily adding to the options and range of class levels she offers. Renee now travels to many fiber arts festivals around the country to both teach classes and sell her products. You can also find Renee at the Waukesha Makerspace, teaching classes and building spinning wheels.

Depending on the students, we might cover the finer points of getting what you want out of your spin: consistency, purposeful Thick-Thin, and color management.

Step away from the tools, screens, printers, lasers, and half-finished projects and join us for a laid-back Waukesha Makerspace Summer Picnic ☀️

We’ll be gathering at Hales Corners Park, Picnic Area #2 for a full, no-pressure day of good company and fresh air. This is a bring-your-own food and drinks picnic. You’re welcome to bring something to share if you feel like it, but there’s absolutely no obligation. Bringing food and drinks just for yourself is 100% acceptable and never judged.

Alcohol isn’t frowned upon, but this is very much a be responsible, be respectful kind of afternoon. The goal is relaxed, not rowdy.

Expect casual games like bocce ball, frisbee, and other “we’re here to relax, not compete” classics. Feel free to bring any games you enjoy. The real objective is conversation, laughter, and enjoying time with fellow makers without an agenda or a stopwatch.

Bring your own chairs, blankets, or other comfy setup. Picnic tables are typically available, but personal comfort is king.

This picnic is a long-running tradition. Tom and Casey have been hosting this get-together for nearly 20 years, and it’s truly rain or shine. We usually bring EZ-Up awnings just in case, and believe it or not, the rainy years have still been a blast.

Family and partners are welcome. Come for the whole day or just swing by when you can. Build nothing. Fix nothing. Just exist pleasantly with good people.
