Ever wondered how two chunks of metal get permanently introduced to each other? This beginner-friendly session is a practical introduction to stick (arc) welding, led by Will.

We’ll start with how stick welding works, cover basic safety concepts, and walk through how to properly prep materials and set up a weld. Will will then demonstrate a weld and talk through what’s happening in real time, including common mistakes and what “good” actually looks like.

This is a small, focused learning session designed to keep things approachable and safe.

    Important participation and safety requirements:

    • This is a 101-level class and demonstration, not a certification or independent welding training.

    • Attendance is strictly limited to 4 participants.

    • Registration is required, and email confirmation is mandatory. If you have not received a registration confirmation email, you will not be allowed to participate in the class. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

    • Participants should wear long sleeves and clothing made from natural fibers (such as cotton or canvas) whenever possible. Synthetic materials are not recommended around welding activities.

    • The session is primarily observational, with guided discussion and Q&A.

If you’ve been curious about welding but didn’t know where to start, this class provides a safe, structured introduction with clear expectations.

    What are Fiber Arts?

Bring your spindle or borrow one of mine.  I will also have spindles available for purchase.

Approximately 2 oz of fiber will be provided per student.  If you have a drop spindle, feel free to bring it. However, you are still welcome to try one of mine.

AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude are powerful, but only if you know how to talk to them.

This hands-on class is designed to help everyday makers, creatives, and professionals use AI more effectively and more intentionally. We’ll focus on practical skills, real examples, and habits you can start using immediately.

    Topics will include:

    • How different AI tools think (and why that matters)

    • Writing better prompts to get better results

    • Using AI for learning, planning, writing, coding, and problem-solving

    • Common mistakes that lead to bad or misleading answers

    • Tips for working with AI instead of fighting it

This session is beginner-friendly, but useful for anyone who feels like they’re “using AI” without fully unlocking its potential.

Bring a laptop if you’d like to follow along, but it’s not required.

You have a handle on drop spinning, but you know there are some fun techniques out there that you would like help with.

*Necessary skill: To be able to spin with an unsupported spindle and be able to let the spindle spin suspended while drafting.

Depending on the students, we might cover the finer points of getting what you want out of your spin: consistency, purposeful Thick-Thin, and color management.

Feel free to bring food for yourself or something to share, but no pressure—just bring yourself and an interest in having fun. We’ll have tables set up for smaller groups (most games accommodate 4–5 players), and if there’s interest near the end, we may fire up some Jackbox party games for a lighthearted group experience.

Whether you're here to tinker, build, craft, or explore—New Member Orientation is your first step to becoming an active part of the Waukesha Makerspace community. This session is mandatory for all new members before using the shop or participating in community activities.

During orientation, you’ll receive a full walkthrough of our space, learn how to safely and respectfully use our tools and equipment, understand our policies, and get your key fob tested and activated. We'll also cover how to reserve storage, find resources, and get involved with volunteer efforts, workshops, and events.

    ⚠️ Registration Code Required:
To register for orientation, you must enter a registration code. This code can be found in the membership application confirmation email you received after applying for membership. If you cannot locate your code, please reach out to a board member or contact us through the website.

    What to Bring:

    • A government-issued photo ID

    • Your completed liability waiver (or plan to fill it out onsite)

    • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes (you may walk through active shop areas)

    • A positive attitude and any questions you may have!

Orientation typically lasts 60–90 minutes and is led by one of our amazing volunteers. Please note that sessions may occasionally be canceled or rescheduled, so we appreciate your patience. Orientation is offered periodically throughout each month, so find a time that works for you and sign up early if you can.

Join us for a monthly series of hands-on hack nights where we build, tinker, and reimagine robotics kits from CrunchLabs (by Mark Rober). Each session, we’ll assemble one, or more, of the Hack Packs together as a group, and then hack the kit into something wild, wonderful, or downright weird.

These kits are designed to be modified—so after we build, we brainstorm, collaborate, and customize them however we like. If a session fills up, we’ll split into groups and each tackle a kit. It’s collaborative, fun, and filled with experimentation.

No experience necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to make cool stuff.

When: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM (Tuesdays or Wednesdays, monthly)
Where: Waukesha Makerspace, 2111 S West Ave Unit 58, Waukesha WI 53189
Who: Makers of all ages (recommended 12+ with adult supervision)
    Cost: Free for members.

Curious what a makerspace actually looks like in real life? Come see it.

This open house is designed for new and prospective members who want to explore the Waukesha Makerspace, take a guided tour, and ask questions in a relaxed, no-pressure setting. You’ll walk through the shop, see the tools and work areas, meet current members, and get a clear picture of how membership works.

This event is not a member meeting or business update. It’s purely for people who want to:

    • See the space in person

    • Learn what tools and resources are available

    • Ask questions about memberships, training, and projects

    • Get a feel for the community before deciding if it’s a fit

No experience required. No commitment expected. Just show up curious.
